What people use DuckDuckGo proxies for
DuckDuckGo does not personalise results, which makes it a cleaner signal than a logged-in search, and a useful cross-check on a ranking that looks suspicious. Its results still follow the region the query comes from.
It rate-limits by address, and it will answer a scripted request with a challenge once the pace is obvious.
- Compare regional result sets without a personalisation layer.
- Read results in bulk across a pool instead of one exhausted address.
- Cross-check a ranking that looks like an artefact of personalisation.
Why DuckDuckGo answers differently from a hosting address
What makes it awkward
The HTML endpoint is far cheaper than the rendered page. Fetching the results page rather than driving a browser is the difference between a run that finishes and one that is blocked partway.
Where the location changes the answer
Region is a query parameter and an address signal at once. Set both, or the two disagree and the results belong to neither market.
Country, region and city targeting are set per endpoint in the generator, and geo-targeting explains how narrow to go.
How to route DuckDuckGo through a proxy
Three steps, and the same three on every target in this section, because the product works the same way each time.
- 1
Generate an endpoint
Open your Residential product, go to the Proxy tab, pick the protocol and sub-user, and set the country you need. Copy the endpoint in URL format.
- 2
Point DuckDuckGo traffic at it
Pass the endpoint to whatever makes the request: a proxy flag, a client setting, or a proxy field in the tool. HTTP is accepted everywhere; SOCKS5 is there when a client insists on it.
- 3
Verify the exit before you trust the data
Check the endpoint, read the exit IP, and look up its country and ISP. Do this before a run, not after: a silent bypass and a working proxy look identical until you read the address behind your DuckDuckGo request.
Generating endpoints is covered field by field in Generating Proxy Endpoints, and every format the dashboard can copy is in Proxy Formats and Exports.
